Kekova Region is approximately 165 km from Antalya. It includes Kekova Island, Kaleköy and Üçağız Villages and the ancient cities of Simena, Aperlae, Dolichiste and Teimioussa. The region is a natural wonder that smells of history and fascinates people with its charming villages, sarcophagi and rock tombs in the water, and large and small coves.
Kekova Island is a rocky island with a length of 7.4 km and a width of 500 meters, giving its name to the entire region. It is off the coast of Kaleköy and Üçağız, in the Demre district. However, no residents live on the island, which is only accessible by boats. There are pensions, restaurants, and cafes. The towers and rock tombs on Kekova Island are among the must-see places.
On the northern side of the island, known as 'Dolichiste' in the Lycian language, is the ancient Kekova City Shipwreck, known as the Sunken City and destroyed by an earthquake in the second century. Boat and canoe tours are organized to the region to closely examine the city, which has been submerged due to the earthquake. As long as the right weather conditions are present, you can see the traces of the settlements as you sail slowly over the sparkling and clear waters.
