Hıdırlık Tower was built on the historical Kaleiçi walls. It is on the southwest corner of the city walls, right next to Karaalioğlu Park, on the road to the entrance to Kaleiçi. It is famous for its magnificent view of Beydağlari. The tower is one of the most important symbolic structures of the city with its impressive cylindrical architecture.
The tower was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 1st or 2nd century and is thought to be a monumental tomb, which is 14 meters high. The lower floor is square in plan, and the upper part is built in a cylindrical shape. Frescoes were found in the room on the lower floor. On the upper floor, there is a small excursion area. It is thought that the tower, whose structure is quite durable and solid, was used for defense purposes due to the characteristics of its internal structure or that a beacon was lit from there.
The tower was included in the city's defence system during the Byzantine Period was combined with the walls. It served as a pavilion during the Seljuk Period and as a military warehouse during the Ottoman Period. Throughout history, the tower has also been used as a watchtower for ships passing through the Gulf of Antalya.
During your tour in the city center, you can easily reach the tower by going from Karaalioğlu Park towards the Kaleiçi entrance. When you enter through Hadrian's Gate on Atatürk Street, you can get to the tower by going in the sea direction along Hesapci Street. You can take a pleasant break and watch the unique sea view around the tower, which has one of Antalya Bay's most beautiful viewing areas.
