Antalya-style piyaz is perhaps the first thing that comes to mind with its hundred-year history. It is among the flavors whose reputation exceeds the borders of Antalya. The dish, which local and foreign tourists coming to the city want to try, is very original with its cooking technique and tarator sauce. It gives the food its authentic taste and is a very special and different taste unique to Antalya.
 
While piyaz varieties made in other regions are consumed as a salad, Antalya Piyaz is preferred as the main dish on its own. Antalya Piyaz gets its distinctive feature from its small-grained, veined, matte and non-dissolving beans. The tarator sauce was poured over these beans, prepared with boiled beans, tahini, lemon, vinegar, rock salt and garlic. Some piyaz do not add boiled beans to the tarator sauce, thickening the sauce. Tomatoes, eggs, parsley, olive oil and optionally onion are put on the sauced beans, ready to be served.
 
This delicious flavor has taken its place among the Geographical Indications Products with the Geographical Mark registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office in 2017. It is not only satisfying enough on its own but is also consumed with its favorite accompaniment, shish meatballs. You can find Antalya Piyazı in many restaurants in the city center.
